Healthy Eating Series
Easy Ways with Winter Veggies
With current trends in healthy lifestyles, fresher culinary choices and quick-and-easy mealtime demands, many people want to eat healthier and are looking for tools to make it happen. Kitchen gadgets and recipe websites abound, but sometimes basic skills are in short supply. A Veggies in the Middle workshop joins all these elements in a lively demo and tasting experience.
One positive action to make an eating plan more nutritious is making it fruit and vegetable heavy. It’s not necessary to “go vegetarian” to transform an eating plan to the healthier side. But preparing vegetables is becoming a lost art, especially for those who rely on pre-packaged and restaurant meals for sustenance. This is where Veggies a in the Middle experience comes in.
This workshop will focus on winter veggies and some accessory ingredients that make them easy and delicious. Workshop topics include:
- History, agro-practices, lore and botany of featured vegetables and their relatives
- Basic techniques with simple ingredients and easy instructions
- Philosophies behind buying organic, local, and clean resources when possible
- Simple ways to get more vegetables in daily eating plans without a lot of extra work
- Adaptations for special eating plans as needed and requested by the attendees
- Nutrition values of featured vegetables
Participants receive a booklet with nutrition basics, preparation tips, and the recipes featured in the workshop. The interactive format allows for customizing the event to the interests and needs of those attending. Included note pages result in individualized take-home booklets.
